Teeth Whitening Techniques That May Make You Happy

By Max Lincon

Over the years, teeth whitening seems to have taken off all over the world. On the television, the presenters all seem to be blessed with a perfect white smile and seemingly whiter teeth than many of the general population. Not only can they promote a bright smile, they might help you self-esteem.

The way these products usually work is by cleaning the enamel with peroxide bleach. There are many different products around and each has a different strength, as indicated by the level of peroxide they contain. Products these days typically have around ten per cent to twenty two per cent peroxide bleach in them. As there are many different types of tooth whitening, one of which is zoom whitening, there are various methods of whitening the teeth, some of which are more effective than others.

One such method that is used is entitled the in-office technique. It is, quite simply, the process of going to your dentist and having it done there. This has the advantage of being convenient and can, in effect be done during a break or even after work. The thing is this convenience does come at a cost, a much higher cost than other methods.

Trays and gels are another option people use. They can a be very effective method for using at home, but usually take longer than the in-office technique. The length of time it takes often is dependent on how strong the teeth whitener is so no clear answer can be given. You wear a clear tray in the mouth for a few hours a day, maybe overnight, and gradually the smile gets whiter. Although the process can take from a few days to a few weeks, it's usually much cheaper then the in-office method. You can get kits, such as zoom teeth whitening kits, online and even over the counter at your dentist. However, they do tend to charge more.

Strips can also be used and these seem to be popping up quite a lot throughout the United States. These can be purchased over the counter and are normally fairly inexpensive and are often easy to use. Some report that they are very effective too. These strips could take a little while longer to produce results than, say, the tray and gels method, but this often depends on the strength of the peroxide that they have in them.

There exists on the market today special pastes that purport to promote whiter teeth. These have in them certain special chemicals and polishing agents which are apparently stronger than the regular toothpaste out there in grocery stores. Because they are brushed onto the teeth and not actually applied in the same way as a strip or gel, they are not actually bleaching.

For those who want a brighter smile, there are things like regular toothpaste, mouthwash, dental floss and chewing gum. While these may well help clean enamel, they do not perform the same function as a whitener. In short, they are most likely to be used with a bleach rather than on their own.

There are many teeth whitening products on the market. Picking from them might come down to what your budget is or how much time you have on your hands, or even how much enamel need to be whitened. Whatever your circumstance, there should be a product out there for you.
